Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday of November, but in Canada it is celebrated on the second Monday in October.
In the United States, Thanksgiving is a federal holiday, which means that all government employees and most private employees have a day off work. It is a time when families and friends come together to give thanks for what they have.
The tradition began in 1621, when the Pilgrims and the Native Americans shared a meal to celebrate the Pilgrims’ first successful harvest in the New World. Over time, this feast became an annual event of gratitude and community.
Today, people celebrate Thanksgiving by preparing a big dinner that usually includes roast turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, vegetables, gravy, and pumpkin pie. Many families also watch Thanksgiving parades or American football games on TV.
To sum up, Thanksgiving Day reminds people to be grateful for what they have. It is a special time to spend with family and friends, enjoy good food, and appreciate the blessings of the year.
Make sure you remember the different celebration dates in the USA and Canada 🙂
